Course Description
An introduction to Chinese literature in the 20th Century. The publishing industry, and especially literature, played an influential role in shaping China's modern development. Students will study the origins of the New Culture movement's new literature, analyze revolutionary romanticism and art for the masses, as well as examine contemporary works of popular fiction. The course relates China's literary and cultural trends within the local and global dimensions of modernity. All works in English.
