Course Description
This course is a study of music composed between 1600 and 1750. A few topics that we study are the origins and development of opera from Monteverdi through Handel; the relationship between opera and the modern-day musical; the influence of dance rhythms in vocal and instrumental music; and sacred and secular music by Bach and Handel.
