Course Description
Exploration of how French colonialism has informed artistic expression in the French Antilles. Taking Martinique as a point of departure, we will examine how colonial and post-colonial subjects represent and are represented through literary, theatrical, and musical productions. Themes to include notions of negritude, creolite, and bilingualism, as well as issues of class and gender.
