Course Description
This research seminar will examine the American experience with disasters over the course of the past three centuries. We will study how natural and technological disasters have impacted American society in different eras; how explanations for the cause of disasters have changed over time; how factors such as race and class have influenced vulnerability to disaster; and how charitable and governmental responses to disaster have evolved over the course of American history.
