Course Description
We will examine the literature and social context of women writers of the Harlem Renaissance (~1918-1940), using ethnographic and museum theories of the early 20th century. We will explore the relationships between literature and social politics, cultural collection, community, and representation as we research editorial decisions about and framework of literature in a collection of literature; claims to culture and social change through literature; the dynamics of gender roles in the construction and re-construction of the culture concept; and representations of self and community in public art forms.
