Course Description
An advanced course examining major artistic movements and developments after 1789. We will examine the stylistic characteristics of these major movements, and consider art-making of this century in the context of the development of industrial capitalism, colonialism, and imperialism. We will also consider the development of such modern art institutions as the art museum and the commercial gallery.
