Course Description
Within the context of a persevering economic crisis, and of citizens' protests from the indignant movement in Madrid to the okupas in Barcelona, a spirit of cultural and social innovation has been emerging in Spain. In this course students will explore how social innovators are transforming their communities in support of employment, education, health, human rights, the environment, and economic and urban development. Through the building of creative social spaces--centers, collaboratives, collectives, labs--students will learn how Spanish citizens are engaging one another locally and globally through grassroots efforts that are creative, participatory challenges that drive social innovation in Spain through specific case studies.
