Course Description
Students will discover how ancient Mediterranean societies interacted with the natural world, as revealed by history, art and literature, and archaeology. Some of the questions we will investigate include: how did the Mediterranean environment affect and determine everyday life, both in cities and in rural areas? How did ancient societies manage their food supply? What was their view of nature? How did they react to ecological crisis? And, finally, how can we use their outlook on and treatment of the environment to inform our own approach?
