What does a good life look like? What does it mean to 'live well' as a person, as a community, or as a nation? Can societies live well by exploiting nonrenewable resources, and is it possible to live well without them? Can social movements and popular groups wield real political power without being corrupted by the system? This class is an introduction to Latin American experiments in environmental and social change across the 20th and 21st centuries. Students will complete a final research project that applies lessons from Latin America to their own lives.
