Course Description
Satire is a paradoxical art, a form of social chemotherapy: it mocks and scorns in order to correct and improve. And since humanity provides a constant supply of follies and pretensions, it is an enduring and universal art as well. This course will study satire through time and various cultures, from Aristophanes and Horace to Swift and Pope and up through Slaughterhouse Five and The Simpsons .
