Course Description
We will study the origins, history, theory, and practice of Ancient Greek and Roman astronomy, including influences from Egypt and Babylon, mythological and philosophical accounts of celestial phenomena, the classical geocentric model of the universe, and early observational and quantitative methods. Students will learn how ancient people measured time, made calendars, and organized their public world around the idea of an orderly and harmonious cosmos.
