Basic geologic concepts are used for understanding how the environment and landscape affect society. This course examines the nature of various phenomena including earthquakes, volcanoes, landslides, floods, and coastal erosion. It also examines the interplay between human activities and the environment, such as soil and groundwater contamination, solid-waste disposal, resource development, the geologic record of global change, and the far-reaching consequences of global warming.
